The 14th Broadstairs Scout Group was established in 1977 with the opening of the Cub Scout Section, shortly after, the Scout Section was commenced. In 1983 we were the Group chosen to take part in a national experiment to bring Scouting to the younger ages. Beavers soon became nationally recognised as a Section and we pride ourselves on being the oldest Colony. During the late 1980’s it became difficult to obtain the necessary Leadership and it was with regret that the Cub and Scout Sections were closed until new Leaders could be found. In 1991 the Cub Section reopened and was again followed shortly by the Scout Section reopening in 1994. The Queens Charter had only just been granted to permit girls into what was a boys movement and we were one of the early pioneers in this respect. 14th Broadstairs has continued to remain a mixed Group throughout the Sections and girls and boys are both welcome alike.

In 2002, the Group celebrated its Silver Anniversary and was granted permission by the County Commissioner to take it’s own Group Badge. The boat was chosen as Broadstairs has a history of boat building and was deeply involved in smuggling activities.
