The cubs spent the weekend at Westgate Scout Hut working on their Scientist and Astronomer badges.

They had fun making periscopes, growing cress, constellation scopes and pinhole cameras (which actually worked!).

They also learnt about the skeleton and found out what happened to their pulse rate when they exercised – some of the Leaders were a little concerned that a visit to accident and emergency may be required when pulse rates as low as 3 were recorded!

Saturday evening was a real adventure when we all went to the observatory at Monkton Nature Reserve to gaze at stars, learn about planets and space and look through telescopes, it was a late night but great fun for all (I suspect a few cubs may be requesting telescopes for Christmas!)

A good nights sleep followed for some, but not all as many were kept awake  by the sound of snoring – it wouldn’t be fair to tell you who but I will just say it was a young male leader!!

Special thanks go to Jane for her fantastic cooking and to Paul who stepped in at the deep end and helped us out, also to the young leaders whose help as always was invaluable.
