We had some new recruits on our last night of this term. The Cubs invited their Parents to come along.
The evening kicked off as usual with our ceremonies and inspection. (There were a few worried Parents who didn’t want to lose any points). After that the group was split into teams and completed a circuit of bases, a bit like the Crystal Maze.
These included mental challenges, skill, teamwork and creative abilities and finally a test on the Cub Badges. Much laughter could be heard from outside whilst the teams completed the drainpipe relay whilst some found this frustrating when the ball was dropped and had to start again. We had some wonderful costume designs and we’re thinking of marketing the nappy look and rara skirts. There were some wonderful creations in the mini pioneering and real sense of competition emerged, each team trying to build a bigger, stronger structure. (Although who ate the most sweets, the cubs or parents – I cannot say?)
The Cubs challenged the Parents to stuff a sleeping bag away against the clock and many now realise that this is a skill that must be practised. Finally, after sewing so many badges on, mums could be heard racking their brains to work out what each one was. We loved the “Cooking a Marshmallow on a Stick” Badge.
Whilst it was all a bit of fun there was a serious point to the evening and that was to complete the last task required to gain the County 2014 Challenge Badge. These will be awarded soon.
Thank you to our Parents for entering into the spirit of the evening and we hope to see you all again soon at our next Family Event.
