This week the Cubs achieved their First Silver Medal in Scouting’s Sporting Challenge.
The Cubs were challenged to go back in time and hold the first Olympic Games.
They brought their own sheets and set about folding and pinning them into toga’s. After they had walked through the Time Tunnel accompanied by Dr Who music (you may have heard it, we think they did in Calais until Kaa sorted the volume) they took part in various bases on a Greek theme.
First was the Games where they performed indoor events, the Marathon, Shot Put, Discus, Sprint and Javelin. Oliver won the Gold Medal for the javelin whilst Shaun was our champion sprinter in the shuttle run and the shot put.
After the Games we retired to eat some authentic greek food – Pitas with Humous, Yoghurt and Feta Cheese. The Pita was the best bit (apparently) they were not keen on Goats/Sheeps Cheese.
Finally they entertained us after learning to dance the Greek way, picking up the steps was hard enough but keeping up with the music was hilarious. All in all a fun evening.
The Cubs are gradually working through the challenges and you can go to oursportingadventure to check the progress (not sure what page we are on, only started on the 1st of January some already had Gold’s by the 2nd!!).
We have already counted our blessings and set ourselves goals and challenges to achieve by the summer.
