Another great weekend with a great bunch of Cubs. We arrived Saturday morning at the Dockyard in Chatham for our exciting sleepover on HMS Cavalier. The weekend started with a lesson in communication skills including morse code and making our own enigma machine. We stopped for lunch and then visited a number of areas including the lifeboats, HMS Gannet and of course the play area where a number of cubs proved they are definitely monkeys with their swinging and climbing skills.
It was then time to board HMS Cavalier and set up our bunks for the night some of the bigger members of the group questioning just how we were going to get into our bunks!! It was then time for a lovely tea of sausage or fish with chips – delicious and no washing up. We returned to the ship to met our Royal Navy Officer for our own private tour of Cavalier. The Cubs were put through their paces in the form of drills where they all performed well once they had identified left and right! Hot chocolate and cake followed before we bedded down for the night, some sleeping better than others.
Sunday started early with a film before a full English breakfast-very tasty. We then visited HMS Ocelot, a submarine, and learnt about life on board, needless to say not many takers for that job! A visit to the ropery finished the visit where the cubs helped to make our own piece of rope.
Throughout the weekend the cubs were complimented on their manners and behaviour and were once again a credit to the group.
Looking forward to our next visit in a few years time.
