The Committee and Leaders of 14th Broadstairs Scout Group would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Wow, what a year 2012 has been. It’s been a busy one! We’ve had the Queens Jubilee and the Olympics but surely the highlight of the year was the 14th Broadstairs Group Show! What an amazing night and an amazing amount of money we raised all towards our new Group Minibus. As well as the Group Show we had a Group Project tidying Ramsgate Cemetery and a Group day out at Chessington World of Adventures. Our Beavers and Cubs also had a trip to The Gilwell Fun Day in June.

For the sections it all started way back in January with the Scouts trip to the National Pedal Car Olympics at the Thriftwood Campsite, Brentwood, Essex on a very cold weekend. It’s a great weekend with approximately 100 teams of Scouts and Guides from all over the country competing. After a couple of third place finishes in recent years the Scouts excelled themselves this year and took First place and our all Girls team narrowly missed out on the all Girls trophy by a couple of points.

February and March saw all sections having Sleepovers and Camps, our Cubs took a brilliant first place in the District Swimming Gala and we had top three for all sections at the District Cross Country.

April and May we had our Group Show and the arrival of our new minibus. There were various nights out on Hikes and the Scouts having a day at Cottington Lakes earning their Anglers Badge (would have been two days for the Leaders but even they gave up on Saturday with so much rain the lake and paths became one!)

June, July and August took us to the end of term with the Beavers having their Jubilee Party, the Cubs off to Tolmers for Cub Camp, Beavers and Cubs at Gilwell, the Scouts holding their annual Robot Wars competition (well done Randal for winning this year. Look out in 2103 for the new house Robots, the Undertaker, Jaws and the Scoutinator). Having had a few issues with the judging in some of the District competitions this year (don’t get us started!) and with a national title under their belt the Scouts headed off to the Kent Scouts It’s a Knockout Competition. For those that remember the TV programme it was just like it, lots of inflatables, foam, water and silly costume’s. Again they did us proud and came a way with a first place, this time in a County competition. In August the Scouts hit the New Forest for Scout Camp.

September it was back for the last term to take us up to the end of the year. Cubs had another sleepover, Cubs and Scouts had a couple of weeks at Ramsgate Fire Station whilst the Beavers had a visit to Margate Lifeboat Station. The Beavers then held a sponsored sandcastlelifeboat build at Viking Bay and raised £300 for the Lifeboats. They then return to the Lifeboat Station and presented the money raised to some of the crew. Scouts entered the District ADUTT competition taking first place in the cooking and second and third in the pioneering and the overall ADUTT competition. The Beavers had a brilliant first and sixth place at the District Fact or Fib quiz, followed by a second place at the District Beaver Splash. The District Fishing Competition was a washout with as much water on the pier as under it, well done Adam and Ty-Lea for being the only two as mad as Radar and Gadget and turning up. We had our trip to Chessington. The Cubs had a night at Hobbycraft and a morning at Revolution Skate Park earning their Skaters Badge. The Scouts held a Survival Camp and took it up a notch from the usual by having to skin Rabbit and pluck Pheasants for a game stew before plucking and preparing wood pigeon for pigeon burgers as an afternoon snack! and the website celebrated it’s first birthday.

So here we are a few days before Christmas looking back at everything we’ve done. All this is on top of all the planning that goes into the weekly section meetings, it’s hard work, but you know what? we love every minute of it, if we didn’t we wouldn’t do it! but we couldn’t do it without all the support we get from the Parents, Carers, Brothers, Sisters, Nan’s, Grandad’s, etc, etc

Thank you for all the support you have given us throughout 2012, have a great christmas and best wishes for the new year from everyone at 14th.

It all starts again on the 10th Jan 2013  for all sections. 2013 looks like it’s going to be another great one with CubJam and KIJ thrown in on top of everything else.

Good luck to the Scouts that are off to the National Pedal Car Olympics 11th-13th Jan. Scouts please check the website before the 10th as there will be instructions re kit and leaving etc.

Once again, have a great christmas and a happy new year.
