Having spent some of last weekend at Hornby Hobbies testing a new product (Leaders were living the dream!!) this weekend ten Cubs who were lucky enough to win a place spent Friday night camping in Drapers Windmill. This is a working mill and we are the first people ever to be allowed to sleep there and as far as we know we are the first Cubs ever to sleep in a windmill.
After arriving the Cubs took part in a colouring competition won by Grace and Brandon followed by a Cub forum to give their ideas for next term. Some wild ideas were given including a trip to Blackpool tower an ‘all you can eat night’ and bungee jumping!! We then tucked into birthday cake as Alex was celebrating his birthday the next day and sat down with hot chocolate. The Cubs were then settled into their sleeping bags, a bit of a jigsaw puzzle, and after a bit of teasing about what might come up through the trap door they settled down for the night.
The Cubs slept well on the ground floor but the Leaders on the second floor were not so lucky as the wind and rain had us doubting it would still be there in the morning!
After packing up we all went to ASDA for breakfast. We think our Cubs are the first in Thanet to earn the Kent Cub Scouts Crazy Camping Badge and as usual all behaved brilliantly.
Thanks should go out to the team at Drapers Mill for allowing us to use it for the night.
