The Beavers took part in a Japanese themed evening which helped them work towards their Global & Friendship Challenge Badges.

Before the discussion on Japan had begun, the Beavers were asked if they knew any facts about Japan. One little girl put her hand up and told us Japan had lots of salamis. After some chuckles from Leaders and the correct word “tsunami” had been used, the children were asked if they knew what tsunami was. One little boy then put his hand up and said, “it’s a long, pink spicy sausage”. Again the Leaders were unable to control their chuckles but eventually were able to tell the Beavers what a tsunami really was.

The children tried different activities such as using chopsticks, writing their names in japanese, origami and learning to say “hello” and “goodbye” in japanese. Throughout the evening, Leaders informed the Beavers of different facts about Japan and their knowledge and listening skills were then tested at the end of the meeting with a game of true or false.

All involved enjoyed the evening and left with a little bit knowledge about Japan.
