This weekend, 15 very eager Beavers all arrived at 1st Garlinge Scout Hut to take part in a Scottish sleepover.

After changing into our tartan costumes, the Beavers (and Leaders) took part in a number of craft activities including, making haggises, Nessie for hangers, swords, Scottish flags, thistles and bookmarks.

At lunch time, the children enjoyed uncut bread (six loaves of it may we add) and all tried Scottish crisps and oat cakes. The general consensus was that the crisps were better than English ones and the oat cakes, tasted like cardboard.

At dinner time the children were again given Scottish food to try which included trying Haggis. A number of children enjoyed it and even asked for seconds! The biggest shock to the system at dinner time for the children was having to do their own washing up. The look on their faces was a look of disbelief, but as they all discovered, they were not made of sugar, so the water didn’t make them melt!

After dinner, the children and Leaders all put up tents, which for some was a first time experience. After a small amount of chaos, the tents were up, the children were asked to put on their pyjamas and it was round a circle with our teddies and camp blankets to sing campfire songs with some hot chocolate and cake.

This was deemed another very successful sleepover and the children are really looking forward to the next one. 9 out of 15 children who attended the sleepover gained their first nights away badge! We’re very proud of all of you!
