PEDALER’S ARE YOU READY? Yes it’s that time of year again, no point in hanging around deciding what to put in the New Year programme for the Scouts, just pile straight in and get to the National Pedal Car Olympics at Thriftwood.

We took 4 teams (16 Scouts) this year and with most of our older ones having moved on we had a lot entering Pedal Cars for the first time, some even gaining their first nights away!

Conditions on site were not as bad as we expected. Yes there was plenty of mud but we would have been disappointed ifpedal2015badge there wasn’t, didn’t want it too easy for them! For those that don’t know the weekend is made up of 9 events where you are gaining points for time or distance. In between the races and in their spare time the Scouts can also have ago at various on-site activities like Archery, Climbing, etc. The biggest draw for some of them seemed to be the vending machine! On the Saturday evening there are a load of inflatables and a disco for the Scouts to enjoy although most end up back at our site in front of the campfire making popcorn and toasting marshmallows.

Well done Scouts you all put in an amazing amount of hard work over the weekend, we are proud of you all. Once Thriftwood publish the results we will put them on here.

Team Alpha – Geena, Niamh, Garce, Olivia  – 35th (highest place all girls team)

Team Bravo – Oliver, George, Presley, Ned  – 17th

Team Charlie – Tristan, Ed, Jack, Tobin  – 53rd

Team Delta – Alfie, Brett, Ryan, Harry  – 54th

Total of 58 Scout teams took part

We didn’t get any overall team placing this year but Olivia did take 1st place in the Individual event (5 laps of a small tarmac track) with the fastest time of the weekend.

Every year we share our site with Chief and the Scouts from 11th Broadstairs and for the last 3 years they have had to watch us take 2 firsts and a second place. This year it was their turn. A huge well done to 11th who took the overall 1st place for the Scout section.

It was another brilliant weekend and it wouldn’t take place without all the hard work that Colin and his Team at Thriftwood put in, so a huge huge thank you to them from all at 14th.

The last big unanswered question, did Point 5 get the minibus stuck this time? no he actually managed to go to Thriftwood and not get the bus stuck. For those that don’t know, last year he got it stuck and had to be towed out and at summer camp we had to dig it out!

As is tradition now Gadget mounts a camera on the handle bars for the Endurance race (800m through mud!) and points it at the Scouts so we can relive the agony they go through. Well done Scouts, this year we have video from 8 Scouts and we haven’t had to bleep anything out! some of the video starts a bit dark due to the position of the sun but does get clearer as they go on.

We also have some video from the Blind Driving Skills Course and the new event for 2015 the Dizzy Donuts.

On behalf of Point5, Radar, Twitch, Carl & Gadget thank you Scouts for another awesome weekend. We are already booked in or 2016!
